Taxonomic notes
Placement in the Ptiloteae at the suggestion of M.Hommersand and M.J.Wynne (pers. comm. 4 January 2015). - (4 Jan 2015) - M.D. Guiry

Description: Thallus erect, alternately or dichotomously branched, corticated with rhizoids, axes bearing opposite determinate branchlets, equal or unequal in length, occasionally with a further 1-2 minor branchlets in each whorl. Procarps near apices of branchlets with 4-celled carpogonial branch and a sterile cell on one (supporting cell) of 2 pericentral cells, auxiliary cell, cut off from supporting cell, leading to carposporophyte with rounded groups of carposporangia, surrounded by several simple involucral filaments. Spermatangia terminal on branchlets. Tetrasporangia sessile or on short branches on cells of branchlets, tetrahedrally divided.

Comments: Known from the northern Pacific including the Aleutian Islands.
