Description: Acrochaetioid algae with long narrow cells (6-16 diameters) of the erect system; multicellular basal system; parietal ribbon-spiral shaped plastids (without pyrenoids), especially in cells near filament apices; a sexual triphasic life history with monoecious gametophytes; carposporangia seriate; terasporangia cruciate or decussate; monosporangia possibly absent.The most recent alteration to this page was made on 2017-01-20 by M.D. Guiry.
