Description: Unarmoured dinoflagellates possessing chloroplasts. Acrobase making a circular loop around the apex. Retractile appendices (both apical and antapical) present at least during some life-cycle stages. Cingulum descending, displaced 2-3 times its own width, not overhanging. [Emend. Reñé & de Salas (Escobar-Morales & Hernández-Becerril, 2015)].

Comments: "Ceratoperidinium differed from other members of the Ceratoperidiniaceae in the high dorso-ventral flattening and presence of two antapical retractile extensions." (Gómez 2018).
