Description: Plants epiphytic or epilithic, minute, spongy cushion, haplostichous, composed of loose longitudinally arranged medullary filaments of large cylindrical or elongated barrel shaped colorless cells, and assimilatory filaments consisting of small pigmented cells. Slender rhizoidal filaments issue from the medullary cells. Phaeophycean hairs present. Ovoid unilocular and uni-biseriate plurilocular sporangia formed on the basal cells of assimilatory filaments. Each cell contains several chloroplasts with pyrenoids.
