This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Halochloris.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chlorocystis cohnii (E.P.Wright) L.Reinhard.

Type locality: Soulac [Soulac-sur-Mer, Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, SW Atlantic France]; (Dangeard 1965: 68) Holotype: (Dangeard 1965: pl. I: figs 15-25) Notes: Type from cultured material isolated from an Ulva culture.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), growing in the sea (Stearn 1973).
