The type species (lectotype) of the genus Campylodiscus is Campylodiscus clypeus (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg ex Kützing.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Campylodiscus horologium var. mediterranea (Grunow in Schmidt & al.) Grunow.
