The type species (holotype) of the genus Surirella is Surirella striatula Turpin.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Surirella ovata var. hankensis (Skvortzov) Skvortzov.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), oval, elliptical, i.e., broadest at the middle, the sides curved and length:breadth generally 2:1 (Stearn 1973).
