General environment
This is a marine species.

Minute spreading epiphytic algae with erect branches 1-3 mm tall, attached by pit-connected, unicellular rhizoids issued from the proximal ends, or occasionally median positions, of ventral periaxial cells on prostrate axes; rhizoids normally 15-35 µm diameter, but occasionally inflated to as much as 70 µm diameter, producing digitate tips upon contact with host species; periaxial cells 4, ecorticate; prostrate axes 50-60 µm diameter, segments 1.4-2.6 diameters long, giving rise to erect axes cicatrigenously from trichoblast scar cells usually at distances of three to six segments, rarely while the trichoblast remains on the plant; erect axes 30-50 µm diameter, segments mostly less than 1.5 diameters long, sparingly to more frequently branched from scar cells; trichoblasts delicate and short, unilaterally branched and appearing pseudodichotomous at maturity, not obscuring the apex; trichoblast scar cells consistently spiraled in a 1/4 pattern on segments of both prostrate and erect axes, but lacking in the most proximal segments of all primary and secondary erect branches; tetrasporangia ellipsoid to subglobose, 30-38 µm diameter, distending the bearing segments at maturity, forming in interrupted or continuous, spiraled series in upper portions of erect axes; dioecious, spermatangial stichidia elliptical, 115-180 µm long and 40-50 µm diameter, forming on the basal cells of trichoblasts that subtend them, at apices of erect axes, without sterile tip cells; cystocarps subglobose to 140 µm diameter, pericarp cells elongate rectangular to parallelogram in rows curved and deflected to the left.

Type locality: south west of Long bar, west of High Point, Bermuda Is. (32 13.7' N, 65 01.0'W) (Schneider & Searles 1998: 24). Holotype: 15 June 1985; collected at 24-27 m on Stypopodium zonale. DUKE or CWS 18367 (Schneider & Searles 1998: 24).
