Coll.; 198002 (López-Piñero & Ballantine 2001: 337) Notes: Holotype: D.L. Ballantine 1334 as Lophocladia trichoclados (C. Agardh) Schmitz.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Thalli erect, to 36 cm tall, alternately to radially branched; denuded below; axes to 1.5 mm in diameter below, decreasing to 0.05 mm above; axes corticated with rhizoidal filaments; pseudolaterals monosiphonous throughout, subdichotomously branched, spirally developed; densely placed pseudolaterals at the branch tips forming ocellate clusters; adventitious indeterminate branches initiated from basal cells of the pseudolaterals, adventitious monosiphonous laterals lacking; tetrasporangial stichidia cylindrical, measuring to a maximum of 175 microns in width and 425 microns in length, with 1- to 3- celled pedicels, rarely sessile; stichidia with up to eight fertile segments, arising at proximal subdichotomies of the pseudolaterals, tetrasporangia six, rarely seven, per segment, measuring 40-50 microns in diameter, each with three cover cells; cystocarps sessile with extensive cortication at the base which completely surrounds the fertile axis, the mature pericarp is obovate-globose measuring to 520 microns at its broadest and to 730 microns in length.
