Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Vaucheria is Vaucheria disperma A.P.de Candolle.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Vaucheria bursata (O.F.Müller) C.Agardh.

Adjective (Latin), creeping, prostrate and rooting (Stearn 1973).
