Taxonomic notes
Uncertain affinities; possibly related to Katodinium vorticella (F. Stein) Fott ex A.R. Loeblich (Calado & Moestrup, 2005).

According to Calado (2011: 647), Schmarda's drawings suggest a species of Opisthoaulax but neither a sulcus nor a sulcal flagellum was seen, and its identity cannot be reliably ascertained. - (14 Dec 2011) - Wendy Guiry
