This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phacus convexus Zakryś & Łukomska
[no locality cited] (Index Nominum Algarum). Lectotype: fig. 2 in pl. XX in Stein (1878): fig. 3g; see below (epitype) (Lukomska-Kowalczyk et al. 2015: 1153). Notes: Representative DNA sequence: GenBank KP944090. Representative locality: freshwater, pond in Oracze village (53°52'36.6"N, 22°20'41.2"E).

Adjective (Latin), almost circular, with length breadth ration of about 6 to 5 (Stearn 1973).
