This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Aegagropila brownii (Dillwyn) Kützing.

Type locality: "South Kuriles. Etorohu Isl. - Lake Naibo, about 9 km. distant from the sea shore."; (Nagai 1940: 37) Notes: "Growing in the depth of 1-2 fathoms, lying loosely on the lake-bottom."
