The type species (holotype) of the genus Anabaena is Anabaena oscillarioides Bory ex Bornet & Flahault .
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dolichospermum delicatulum (Lemmermann) Wacklin, Hoffmann & Komárek.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), alone, by itself, solitary (Stearn 1973).
