The type species (lectotype) of the genus Hedophyllum is Hedophyllum subsessile (J.E.Areschoug) Setchell.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hedophyllum bongardianum (Postels & Ruprecht) Yendo.

Type locality: Shimushu Island, Northern Kurile Island, Russia; (Starko et al. 2018: 162) Notes: Japan:isl. Shimuhu (INA).

Adjective (Latin), spiral (Stearn 1973).
