Type locality: 37º25'N, 142º37'E, Pacific Ocean, offshore Miyagi Prefecture, Japan; (Sekiguchi & al. 2003: 168) Holotype: Fig. 1 (epitype) May 1993; Marine; (Sekiguchi & al. 2003: 168) Notes: Authentic culture: Pd-td, deposited in the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Tsukuba, Japan.

Adjective (Latin), furnished with scales (Stearn 1973).
General Environment
This is a marine species.
Description
Cells solitary, uniflagellate, oval, 8-12 microns long, 6-10 microns wide, covered by plate scales. About 10 tentacles are present around the single flagellum. A stalk is present at the posterior. Six chloroplasts, with bulging pyrenoids. Plate scales ellipsoidal composed of irregularly arranged fibrous material, with an inconspicuous rim. Cells free-swimming or sometimes sessile, attaching to the substratum by a stalk. Cells phagotrophic, reproducing vegetatively by binary division. Cyst unknown.
