Adjective (Latin), thin, fine, slender (Stearn 1973).
No synonyms are currently included in AlgaeBase.
Santelices (1999: 77) notes that Stewart (1968) concluded that P. tenuis is a synonym of P. capillacea.
This is a marine species.
Lectotype locality: Enoshima, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan (Shimada, Horiguchi & Masuda 2000: 16). Lectotype: March 1897; SAP (Okamura herb.) (Shimada, Horiguchi & Masuda 2000: 16, fig. 13).
