Type locality: San Juan Island, north of Conception Point, Washington; (Index Nominum Algarum) Type: on rocks at extreme high-tide level; (Drew 1928: 177) Notes: probably Fern Cave, San Juan Island (Drew, 1928).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), thin, fine, slender (Stearn 1973).
