Nomenclatural notes
South & Skelton (2003) cite this species as Gracilaria confervoides Greville 1830. Abbott (1985) cites this as Gracilaria "confervoides" and in 1995 she cites Gracilaria confervoides (Linnaeus) Greville = Gracilaria verrucosa (Hudson) Papenfuss. See note for the latter species.

Taxonomic notes
Specimens reported as Fucus verrucosus, Fucus confervoides, Gracilaria verrucosa and Gracilaria confervoides - in fact, all terete Gracilaria - from the NE Atlantic and elsewhere require individual examination to determine whether they belong to Gracilaria or Gracilariopsis, and then a decision as to which species is in question. - (18 Sep 2010) - M.D. Guiry

General environment
This is a marine species.
