Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Phaeophila is Phaeophila floridearum Hauck.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ulvella viridis (Reinke) R.Nielsen, C.J.O'Kelly & B.Wysor.

Type Information
Type locality: Napoli, Italy; (Silva & al. 1996: 724) Type: on Derbesia [ = Pedobesia] lamourouxii; KIEL; (Womersley 1984: 133) Notes: "Type material could not be located, so, for the present, the species must be typified by the original figures of Reinke 1879" (O'’Kelly & Yarish (1981: 33). The name has been lectotypified by the original illustration (Reinke 1879, pl. VI: fig. 6, although the authors cited pl. "17") by Brodie, Maggs & John 2007: 117). However, it was already lectotypified by Burrows (1991: 113): original illustration (Reinke, 1879, fig. 6). [See also Nielsen et al. (2013: 53)]. Epitype designated (by Nielsen et al. 2013: 53): C: Cat 2456 (dried material of isolate RN 275478).
