This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cladophora albida (Nees) Kutzing
Type locality: Island of Selsey, England (Hoek 1963: 94). Lectotype: OXF herb. Dillenius (Hoek 1963: 94).

Adjective (Latin), somewhat white, whitish (Stearn 1973).
