Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Conferva is Conferva rupestris Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Digenea simplex (Wulfen) C.Agardh.

Type locality: "Tergesti in Trunco fucorum, mari Adriatici" [Trieste, Italy]; (Wulfen 1803: 17) Notes: Franz Xavier von Wulfen's (1728-1805) types are at W.
