Type locality: Pyramid Point, Monterey County, California; (Athanasiadis & Adey 2006: 85) Holotype: M.B. Nichols; December 1906; Growing together with a few specimens/fragments of Mesophyllum lamellatum (Setchell & Foslie) Adey; UC; 745618 (Athanasiadis & Adey 2006: 85) Notes: Holotype: tetrasporophyte (Nichols 131). Isotypes: UC (745618; Nichols 131); GB (unnumbered); Nichols 131); Herb. Athanas. (Nichols 131). Isotypes include tetrasporangial and gametangial specimens/fragments.
