Type locality: East side of Fleming Island, Bamfield area, Vancouver Island, British Columbia (48º53'N, 125º07'02"W.; (Athanasiadis & Adey 2006: 93) Holotype: Pace and Baillie; 19 July 1969; Subtidal, boulders, with sandy patches; attached at the edge of a piece of wood, together with other sterile encrusting coralline algae; UBC; A48009 (Athanasiadis & Adey 2006: 93) Notes: Pace & Bailley 26943.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), fruitful, fertile (Stearn 1973).
