Type Information
Type locality: Botanical Garden in Sao Paulo, Brazil; (Fiore 2007: 797) Holotype: 2002-2004; Inner side of leaves of bromeliads (Aechmea ornata, A. blanchetiana, Vriesea procera, Wittrockia superba, Nidularium procerum and others) and wooden substrates in a greenhouse; BRNM; Exsiccatum no. 1332 (Fiore 2007: 797, 792) Notes: Fig. 2 (Fiore et al. 2007). Type strain (reference strain): SPC951 (deposited in Bot. Institute, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and CENA/USP, Piracicaba, Brazil).
Description
Filaments joined to flat macroscopic, velvet, blackish violet mats, densely fasciculate, more or less creeping on the substrate, slightly irregularly coiled, cylindrical, 15-17 microns wide, later joined in dense, erect fascicles. Trichomes cylindrical, 14.5-16.8 microns wide, not or very slightly constricted at cross walls, not attenuated towards ends. Sheaths firm, cylindrical, slightly lamellated, colorless to yellow brown. Cells 1.8 -16 microns long, with slightly granular, blue green, olive green or brownish violet content; vacuole-like structures sometimes in cells in rows of neighbouring cells, mainly in the apical (young) parts. Heterocytes solitary, intercalary, discoid or more or less cylindrical, 4-19 x 15-16.8 microns.
