The type species (holotype) of the genus Chantransia is Chantransia nigricans De Candolle.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Acrochaetium endozoicum (Darbishire) Batters.

Type locality: Valencia an der Südküste von Irland, actually Valentia, Co. Kerry, Ireland, where the animal host, Alcyonidium gelatinosus was collected by F.E. Weiss.; (Darbishire 1899: 13)
