Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Champia is Champia lumbricalis (Linnaeus) Desvaux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Champia zostericola (Harvey) Reedman & Womersley.

Type Information
Type locality: "George Town Gunn." [Tasmania]; (Hooker & Harvey 1847: 402) Lectotype: On stems of Heterozostera (?); BM; 000619421 (Reedman & Womersley 1976: 87) Notes: Reedman & Womersley (1976: 87) note that the general confusion between C. affinis and C. zostericola (or C. affinis var. arcuata) is probably largely due to Harvey in his Alg. Aust. Exsicc. listing 253H from Western Port. Vic. as C. affinis, whereas these specimens are typical C. zostericola.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective B (Latin), neighbouring, allied to, akin to (Stearn 1973).
