The type species (holotype) of the genus Chylocladia is Chylocladia kaliformis (Goodenough & Woodward) Hooker.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lomentaria australis (Kützing) Levring

Type locality: "Investigator Street, leg. Miss N. Davey No. 148 (in Cymadoce antarctica epiphytica)." [Sturt Bay, South Australia] (Womersley 1996: 138). Type: A.E. Davey; (Womersley 1996: 138). Notes: An isotype specimen in AD (A1533) is epiphytic on Posidonia australis and appears to be a small plant of Lomentaria australis (Womersley 1996: 138).
