The type species (lectotype) of the genus Polyopes is Polyopes constrictus (Turner) J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Carpopeltis bushiae (Farlow) Kylin.

Lectotype locality: San Pedro, California, U.S.A; (Silva & al. 1996: 188) Notes: This type locality was first described by Kylin (1941: 11) (Silva et al., 1996)
