This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sphaerospermopsis eucompacta (R.Li & M.M.Watanabe) X.Li & R.Li.

Type locality: Lake Yatsuru, Chiba prefecture, Japan; (Li et al. 2015: 300) Iconotype: fig. 1 in R. Li & M.M. Watanabe (1999): (Li et al. 2015: 300) Notes: Neotype: HAB2014-0111, collected August 2006, and fixed material deposited in the Istitute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan, China.
