This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pterothamnion horridum (Tokida & Inaba) Athanasiadis & Kraft.

Type locality: Tateyama, Boshu Province, Japan; (Athanasiadis 1996: 58) Type: T. Inaba No. 403; On Ostrea shells colelcted off the shore; T. Inaba 403 (Athanasiadis 1996: 58) Notes: Athanasiadis (1996: 58) was unable to borrow the type.
