The type species (lectotype) of the genus Muelleria is Muelleria linearis (O.Müller) Frenguelli.

Type locality: Near Fumarole Bay, Deception Island, South Shetland Islands; (Van de Vijver et al. 2010: 26) Holotype: G. Mataloni; 14 February 2002; Found in a rather acid, coastal soil; low percentage of organic matter and a moderately high conductivity; in a zone where volcanic activity present; associated diatom flora composed of Pinnularia borealis s.l., Psammothidium germainii and severak Luticola species; National Botanic Garden, Meise, Belgium; BR-4146 (Van de Vijver et al. 2010: 26) Notes: Isotype: PLP-121 (UA, University of Antwerp, Belgium), BRM-ZU6/92 (Hustedt Collection, Bremerhave, Germany.
