Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhizoclonium riparium (Roth) Harvey.

Type locality: "In Insula Norderney observavit amicus dilectiss. Mertens"; (Roth 1806: 216) Lectotype [designated by Womersley 1984: 170; Norderney, East Frisian Islands, Germany]: Mertens; BM; (Womersley 1984: 170) Notes: Womersley (1984: 170) notes that the holotype was destroyed.

(Latin), growing on river banks, belonging to the shore (Dawes & Mathieson 2008)
