The type species (holotype) of the genus Lomentaria is Lomentaria articulata (Hudson) Lyngbye.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Champia zostericola (Harvey) Reedman & Womersley.

Type locality: Rottnest Island, Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 349) Lectotype: Harvey; Herb. Harvey, TCD; Trav. Set 195 (Womersley 1996: 129) Notes: Lectotype (Reedman & Womersly, 1976: 87).

Adjective (Latin), living on or in the flowering plant Zostera.
