Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhodymenia is Rhodymenia palmetta (Stackhouse) Greville.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halopeltis australis (J.Agardh) G.W.Saunders.

Adjective (Latin), south, southern (Stearn 1983).
