Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Polysiphonia is Polysiphonia urceolata (Lightfoot ex Dillwyn) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Vertebrata lobophoralis (Mamoozadeh & Freshwater) Freshwater.

Holotype locality: south of Big Pantain Cay, Peninsula Valiente, Bocas del Toro, Caribbean coast of Panama (9.12376º N, 081.79743º W); (Mamoozadeh & Freshwater 2012: 332) Holotype: D.W. Freshwater; 6 August 2010; epiphyte on Lobophora; US Algal Collection; 217938 (= PHYCOS-3899) (Mamoozadeh & Freshwater 2012: 332) Notes: Herbarium sheet and permanent slides. Isotype in WNC (WNC33415). Permanent slides.
