Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Delesseria is Delesseria sanguinea (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Adjective A (Latin), spatulate, spatula-like; alternative form of spatulata.

Type locality: Western Australia (Silva & al. 1996: 447). Notes: Womersley (2003: 40) gives the following data for the type: Type from Georgetown, Tasmania (collected by Harvey); lectotype (Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 272 I), in Herb. Harvey, TCD.
