The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pleonosporium japonicum Itono.

Type locality: "Hab.: Yurinohama, Yoron Island. Growing at the depth depth [sic] of about 5 m. as an epiphyte in the lagoon, Collected on Aug. 25, 1967. no. 19715" [Japan]; (Itono 1971: 219) Holotype: H.Itono no. 19715; Aug. 25, 1967; Herb. Itono; (Itono 1971: 219)

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), provided with a pedicel, pedicelled (Stearn 1973).
