Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhopalodia is Rhopalodia gibba (Ehrenberg) O.Müller.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Epithemia asymmetrica (O.Müller) Cocqyut & R.Jahn.

Type locality: Central Africa: Victoria Nyansa bei Bukoba; (Index Nominum Algarum) Lectotype: [Icon] Pl. 2 fig. 12 in Müller 1895: slide B 40 0042021 in B; valve representing the epitype illustrated as Figs 11-13 (epitype) (Cocquyt et al. 2018: 42, fig. 9) Notes: Locality of the epitype: Lake Malawi, near peninsula of Kanda [Tanzania], hillside North of Langenburg [Old Langenburg], (sample B 52 0000023). Habitat: on gneiss boulders in the surge zone of Lake Malawi.
