This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lithothamnion fornicatum Foslie
Type locality: Herø [now Herøy, Nordland county], Norway (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 371). Lectotype: No collector data; 9.vii.1894; no habitat data on type. TRH B23-2745 (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 371).
No synonyms are currently included in AlgaeBase.
Woelkering et al. (2005: 371) write: "... originally described as Lithothamnion dehiscens f. grandifrons (Foslie 1895a: 73). Later Foslie (1900i: 12) considered the species L. dehiscens to be conspecific with L. fornicatum, and he transferred (Foslie 1900i: 12) f. grandifrons into L. fornicatum but needlessly changed the name to f. tuberculata (see Woelkerling 1993: 110, 227)." - (19 Aug 2015) - M.D. Guiry
