"... originally described as Lithothamnion erubescens f. f. prostrata (Foslie 1901a: 3) but subsequently (Foslie 1904c: 5) raised to species rank and redescribed as Lithothamnion incertum with a nomenclaturally allowable change in epithet from prostrata (used by Foslie in the rank of forma) to incertum (used by Foslie in the rank of species)."
