Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Eucheuma is Eucheuma spinosum J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Kappaphycopsis cottonii (Weber Bosse) Dumilag & Zuccarello.
Type Information
Type locality: Miyako-shima, Ryukyu-retto, Japan; (Silva & al. 1996: 334) Type: Grows on coral reefs in the sublittoral zone, about 1-2 fathoms deep.; (Yamada 1936: 130)
