The type species (lectotype) of the genus Draparnaldia is Draparnaldia mutabilis (Roth) Bory.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Draparnaldioides villosa (K.I.Meyer) Vishnyakov.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), villous, shaggy with farily long soft straight not interwoven ascending hairs (Stearn 1973).
