The type species (holotype) of the genus Botryocladia is Botryocladia uvaria (J.A.Murray) Harvey.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chrysymenia brownii (Harvey) De Toni

Lectotype locality: Georgetown, Tasmania (Womersley 1996: 54). Lectotype: Harvey; Herb Harvey, TCD Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 419 (Womersley 1996: 54). Notes: Syntype: various in Australia, including Fremantle, Western Australia (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 364). Lectotype locality designated by Womersley in 1952).

Named for Robert Brown (1773-1858), British collector, botanist and microscopist.
