Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Gobia is Gobia baltica (Gobi) Reinke.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Heteroralfsia saxicola (Okamura & Yamada) H.Kawai.

Type locality: Japan: Aomori Pref.: Kamome-jima; (Yamada 1928: 507) Lectotype (Yoshida, 1991: 12, pl. 12): Y. Yamada; v.1927; TI; (Yoshida 1991: 12, pl. 57) Notes: INA notes: "Syntypes from Mutsu Bay (Gomi-jima; Asadokoro; Oma); inadvertent lectotypification, probably untenable, since Kamome-jima is not mentioned in Yamada, 1928; none of locations in protologue matches lat. long. of any Kamome-jima (but date is OK)."
