The type species (holotype) of the genus Colpomenia is Colpomenia sinuosa (Mertens ex Roth) Derbès & Solier.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Colpomenia bullosa (D.A.Saunders) Yamada.

Type locality: Isla Partida, Gulf of California; (Lee et al. 2013: 21) Notes: Isla Partida, Gulf of California, Johnston, no 58, July (Setchell & Gardner,1924: 726). [Type locality of Scytosiphon bullosus is Palm Grove, California.]

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), very sinuate (Stearn 1973).
