Type locality: Moss Beach, San Mateo County, California (Drew 1928: 165). Holotype: Drew, no. 1037; on Pterosiphonia bipinnata. UC 294558 (Drew 1928: 165).

Participle A curved, like a bow (Stearn 1973).
