Type locality: Lands End, San Francisco, California (Drew 1928: 189). Holotype: Gardner No. 3276; endophytic. UC 294552 (Drew 1928: 189). Notes: Woelkerling & Womersley in Womersley (1994: 71) notes that the type was found in Porphyra perforata .

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), of or on the genus Porphyra (Stearn 1973).

This is a marine species.

Habitat
Endophytic in Porhyra spp. and Halymenia muelleri (Woelkerling & Womersley 1994: 71).
