The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhodomela is Rhodomela subfusca (Woodward) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Caulacanthus ustulatus (Turner) Kützing.
Syntype localities: New Zealand: east coast and Bay of Islands; (Silva & al. 1996: 282)
This is a marine species.
