The type species (lectotype) of the genus Constantinea is Constantinea rosa-marina (S.G.Gmelin) Postels & Ruprecht.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neurocaulon foliosum (Meneghini) Zanardini ex Kützing.

Syntype localities: "Among the rejectamenta of the sea at Niton, Isle of Wight, Miss E. Everett; On the shore at Budleigh [Salterton, Devon] Mrs. Griffiths; Gathered in Cornwall by Mr. Rashleigh."; (Turner 1808-1809: 110) Lectotype: BM-K; Notes: The Budleigh Salterton specimen was chosen by J. Agardh as lectotype.

Adjective (Latin), kidney-shaped (Stearn 1973).
